Reg to Tech Recruitment

The move from the Life Sciences Industry to the Technology Industry

My name is Jasmine, and I am a Senior Recruiter at TalentHawk. I joined in September 2021 having never worked in the Technology Industry. I have a total of 7 years’ experience within the Recruitment field, however, I started my career working as an internal recruiter where I sourced Carers for the elderly and then started my agency recruitment career 3 years ago within the Life Science Industry.  Like anything this took some time for me to learn what type of positions I was recruiting for.

Within the past 5 months at TalentHawk, I have already placed 2 permanent candidates and 1 contractor, with candidates in the pipeline for more. TalentHawk provided training on the Technology Industry, as well as daily support answering questions I have about each position. In the beginning, my Director spent an entire day discussing the type of positions that I may need to recruit and the team has been on hand at all times should I come up against any challenges. This has been extremely helpful in my move to the Technology Industry as the team are very knowledgeable in both technology and recruitment.

The key difference between my experience working within Life Sciences and Technology is that I have found myself with an abundance of roles during my time here, with a very quick turn around with Clients. The fast-paced environment works very well for me as it ensures that I am able to cover off roles quickly and move onto the next, enabling me to achieve monthly targets. The Regulatory Affairs market, which I specialised in within Life Sciences, did offer many opportunities, however the market felt saturated. In Technology there are many avenues to explore and always new networks to build, especially with new technology coming on to the market.

To anyone with recruitment experience who may be interested in making the move to the Technology Industry, I would say do not let fear of not knowing the industry hold you back, there is a lot of information to learn, however technology is constantly changing and ever-growing with a constant need for positions within the market – I can hand on heart say you will never be sat twiddling your thumbs in this industry!
